Reporting Off for Flu

Parents, for purposes of tracking influenza activity in the district, refer to the symptoms below when reporting your child off with the flu.  If you child has been diagnosed with respiratory influenza and is under a Doctor’s care please let the school know.  We track the number of reported flu cases and notify district families when the numbers are high.  Refer to www.cdc.gov/flu for comprehensive influenza information and current state by state flu activity. As always, prevention is your best weapon in the fight against the flu, frequent hand washing, avoiding individuals known to be ill, avoiding crowds, as well as proper rest and nutrition will all help decrease the likelihood of contracting influenza.  Thank you

Influenza Symptoms

Influenza (also known as the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The flu is different from a cold. The flu usually comes on suddenly. People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:

  • Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

* It's important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever (cdc.gov)
